Their absolute disregard for human life disgusted Danika. She quickly pulled the needle from the man’s chest, and stuffed it back into her satchel. She checked his vitals as she searched for his wallet. He was nicely dressed, as was the woman who was with him. Dani hoped she was alright, when ever she was.
“Let’s see who we have here,” she whispered, opening the man’s wallet. His license said his name was Joseph St. James. Interesting name, she thought, flipping through the rest of his cards. Dani returned the wallet to Joseph’s pocket. She rummaged in her bag for a mini flashlight.
Lifting Joseph’s eyelids, she shined the light into his surprisingly green eyes. Much to her relief, they dilated. The sky was dark and the city lights prevented the stars from showing, but it was still dark enough to conceal her once she got away from the street lights.
Dani tucked her pistol back into it’s holster and tied her scarf around her waist. I need a newspaper stat, she mused staring at the ruggedly handsome man before her.
It may have been either late into the night, or way early in the morning, but LA was still a lively city. Danika grunted with the effort of lifting Joe onto her back. She grew up in western Montana, so she could lift most things easily, however the man gave her some trouble. Dead weight was very different than a sturdy load.
She scooted into a back alley, not far from Santa Monica Boulevard. As gently as possible, Dani dumped Joe back onto the ground, and leaned him against a dirty brick wall. A few flecks of the woman’s blood was smeared on his collared shirt. Danika propped him against her leg and carefully removed it. She tucked the stained shirt into her bag and pulled out a large black t shirt she had.
Joseph groaned somewhat at her redressing him, but he wasn’t roused. A cool wind hurried through the alley. Dani took off her jacket and placed it across his body. Checking her boots to make sure they were still tied, she then ran off to find a newspaper.

“Shit,” she muttered crumpling the more than likely day old newspaper. Dani jogged back to Joe. His position had changed, but he was undisturbed. He will be when he wakes up, she grunted as she sat down next to him. Her muscles were sore, and she now had to worry about getting more ammo.
Danika yanked a handkerchief from her jean pockets and cleaned the outside of her gun. Joe moved again, but this time fell against her shoulder. Dani sat stiffly, unsure of what to do. His curly hair tickled her neck as she tried her best to set him back up straight. She knelt beside him, holding his head with one hand, and his shoulder with the other. She fixed his glasses on his face as his eyes began to flutter open.
A small glaze was over his gaze as he was still coming to. Dani snapped her fingers in front of his face a few times, causing him to flinch.
“Hey there,” she said, letting his eyes focus on her hands, “Don’t try to move, alright? You’ve been through some fucked up shit.”
